Business Law

All business ideas start out as a dream whether it is in a garage or a boardroom. Unfortunately, many hours of hard work lie between you and seeing that dream come true.  You will need to find capital and for that you will need a promoter.  You will also need to find customers and for that you will need a marketeer.  However, to find trouble you will only need to deal with the public or with state regulatory agencies and for that you need a lawyer.  I can help you protect your business from state agencies by making sure that all of the necessary paperwork is property filed with the Secretory of State and the IRS; creating contracts to make sure that your interests are represented when dealing with suppliers, buyers, and employees; and finally helping you to arrange your assets to provide the highest level of protection.

Intellectual Property

Our legal system provides certain rights and protections for owners of property. The kind of property that results from the fruits of mental labor is called Intellectual Property. Rights and protections for owners of Intellectual Property are based on federal patent, trademark and copyright laws, and state trade secret laws. Intellectual Property is recognized as the most important asset of many companies and it is often the foundation of market dominance and profitability.  Ocean Tomo; a provider of opinion, management, and advisory services centered on intellectual property assets; commented in their Annual Study of Intangible Asset Market Value that in 1975 more than 80% of a corporation's value was held in tangible as compared to intangible assets but that by 2015 the ratio had flipped and more than 80% of a corporation's value was held in intangible assets such as patents and trademarks.  I can work with your business on identifying these assets and making sure that they are protected from your competitors.
